Last year my husband and I moved across the country for the fifth time. These moves are usually stressful, exciting, and bittersweet.
Stressful, because wow, there is so much to do to get ready for a cross-country move! Between selling the house, finding a new place to live, packing, and all the transportation arrangements, it’s a lot to organize.
But it’s also exciting, because such a move, for us, represents new adventures and opportunities to meet new people and experience different things.
And finally, it’s bittersweet because you are leaving people and places that you know and love. In our case, we moved away from our son, daughter-in-law and grandson, plus many dear friends, so a big piece of our hearts remain in Arizona.
For the first few months, I continued my job in Arizona remotely, but this summer I cut the cord and then began to wonder what to do with myself.
It’s been a very long time since I have had free time, and I will admit I have struggled with whether or not to find a new job. My husband is encouraging me to just be retired and spend my time exploring all the things I have always wanted to do. So for now, that is my plan.
Since this summer, I have tried a ton of recipes, redecorated our new home, refinished some antique furniture, dabbled with epoxy resin projects, done some paintings, made BIG travel plans, began working out again, started practicing meditation and mindfulness, made some new friends, served as a consultant for my old job, begun volunteering for a local art gallery, rekindled my love of photography, and decided to get serious about writing again, which was my first love. And my list of “want to try” just keeps growing.
Basically, I want to throw a bunch of spaghetti at the walls and see what sticks so I can determine who I really want to be when I grow up.
I would love for you to share this journey with me. But be sure to buckle up – it may be a crazy ride!
Nice post. I learn something new and challenging on blogs I stumbleupon every day. Its always useful to read through content from other writers and use a little something from their websites.
